The effect of micro and nano-sized particles on mechanical and adhesion properties of a clear polyester powder coating

In this study, the effect of various micro and nano-sized particles on the mechanical and adhesion prop-erties of a commercial non-pigmented polyester-TGIC powder coating was studied. Different coatingformulations containing various wt.% of aluminum hydroxide (alumina) particles, TiO2and two differenttypes of fumed silica nanoparticles were prepared via a two-stage process. Tensile strength measure-ments, DMTA analyses and vertical pull off adhesion test were conducted to evaluate mechanical andadhesion properties of the powder coating samples.

Isothermal cure kinetics of uncatalyzed and catalyzed diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A/carboxylated polyester hybrid powder coating

The thermal cure behavior of diglycidyl ether bisphenol-A/carboxylated polyester hybrid powder coating system in the absence and presence of catalyst was monitored using differential scanning calorimetry. Curing temperatures were between 160 and 200 °C. The experimental results showed an autocatalytic behavior of the reaction, which could be described by the model proposed by Kamal. This model includes two rate constants k1 and k2 and two reaction orders m and n.
